About Michael A. Angelicola Stone Carving
A New England stone carver who uses traditional methods, I create monuments, memorials, and headstones with a classic, vintage feel. With over 30 years as a mason in Connecticut, I began to transition over to stone carving after developing a love for historical churches, classic headstones, and traditional architectural details. I realized there are limited options for headstones with these classical elements and I want to offer my community the opportunity to honor their loved one with these vintage styles.
The stone I work with is either quarried myself or chosen from local quarries that offer high-quality, highly durable stone. My pieces are then hand-cut, shaped, finished, and carved using traditional methods that I have learned throughout my career working with stone. This allows for a highly original headstone with a warm, vintage style and every monument is given careful consideration to how each design will stand the test of time.
Whether I’m hand-shaping a newly cut piece of granite, or carving into a stone that I’ve quarried myself, I’ll use a variety of methods, hand-tools and styles to make each piece unique with what I like to call an “old-school” feel. While I will occasionally work with brownstone, marble, or limestone, it is granite that I most enjoy carving, both for its everlasting durability and for the challenge of it.
I install my monuments across all of Connecticut, New York, and the Northeast and can ship anywhere in the United States.
Our Memorials & Headstones
I've always believed each headstone should be as unique as the individual it represents. I carve one-of-a-kind memorials, headstones and ground markers, as well as historically-accurate replacement stones.
Monument Portfolio
I create pieces in many styles including Old New England, Art Deco, Celtic, Art Nouveau, and Religious Sculpture. Crafting stone continues to be a fulfilling calling for me, with new possibilities presenting themselves every day. There is endless history to explore, from the masters of the past to the ancient structures still standing; new tools, techniques & materials for sculpting and carving, and new inspiration to be had. I look forward to continuing to explore new syles and preserving the tradition of New England monument making by honoring the original styles of our region.
Purchasing a Monument
Starting the Process and Things to Consider
Purchasing a monument is a large decision that is typically an unfamiliar process for most customers. I work with customers to help them select the monument that best represents the person you will be honoring with this monument. To begin the process, it's helpful to get an idea for your cemetery's monument rules and regulations, which should outline the type and size of monument you are allowed in the space available. I will also confirm those details with your cemetery, as well as complete any required permitting if I will be installing the monument.
Design
I have a large number of monuments available for sale that represent different art and monument design styles to suit your specific needs and tastes. Once you have selected a piece, we can discuss the lettering that will be added and any additional space on the stone that may need to be saved for future lettering.
Installation
I install monuments myself and at times with a full crew. I install in most areas in New England and New York state and I can also ship monuments anywhere in the United States.
